Move Around Your City!
Mexe-te Pela Tua Cidade! (Get Moving for Your City!) is a project that promotes active and sustainable mobility, encourages changes in habits when traveling between home and school, and contributes to safer and more welcoming school environments.
As part of the School Mobility Program, the project consists of opening up the fronts of schools to active modes - walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding or scootering - one or more days a week, during school entry and/or exit times.
At these times, motorized traffic is temporarily restricted and the street becomes a safe space reserved for pedestrian and cycling traffic. Access is allowed only to pedestrians, bicycles, people with reduced mobility, emergency vehicles and residents (with restrictions).
This traffic calming measure improves road safety, reduces noise and air pollution and promotes physical activity and autonomy for children on their daily commute to school.
In the 2025/2026 school year, the project will be reinforced with new educational actions aimed at children, developed both in the classroom and in the public space, and with initiatives aimed at parents, guardians and the school community.
Implementation of pilot projects
Move for your city!!! has been developing pilot projects in collaboration with various schools since the 2021/2022 school year. In some of these schools, the program has entered a new phase of annual monitoring, which aims to consolidate the implementation of measures that contribute to safer and more sustainable school fronts.
In specific contexts, Move for your city!!! also joins international initiatives such as BICI - Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure and UPPER, reinforcing Lisbon's commitment to active, safe and inclusive school mobility.
