Municipal Assembly

It is the deliberative body of the municipality.

It has supervisory powers over the municipal executive and deliberates on the most important matters for the municipality, on a proposal from the municipal council, under the terms of the law. It can also decide on other matters of interest to the municipality and receive petitions from citizens and their organizations.

Operation

The law provides for five ordinary sessions to be held each year: February, April, June, September, and November or December.

As for extraordinary sessions, the frequency can be: monthly - political statements; quarterly - questions to the council; biannually - questions about parishes; annually - debate on the state of the city. Extraordinary sessions can also be held for thematic debates, with no previously defined periodicity.

Composition

It is made up of 75 municipal deputies: 51 directly elected, and the presidents of Lisbon's 24 parish councils.
