Physical activity and sport at school age

Physical activity and sport at school age play a fundamental role in the physical, emotional and social development of children and adolescents.

Programs

Objectives:

  1. Democratization of access to the Tagus River, through the practice of nautical activities;
  2. Training and sports education in rowing, sailing and adapted sailing;
  3. Contribute to the development of students' educational skills.

Audience: students from public schools in Lisbon - 2nd cycle (Sailing); 3rd cycle (Rowing); 2nd and 3rd cycles with special educational needs (Adapted Sailing)

Period: two shifts (from October to December; from March to May)

Access: free - registration via school

Objectives: Social inclusion of children and young people and the promotion of citizenship values associated with sport.

Public: Children and young people considered to be at risk of social exclusion, preferably living in Priority Intervention Areas (BIP / ZIP).

Activities: Partnerships established with various entities in order to provide a wide range of sports activities (collective and individual modalities) and Physical Education.

Period: September to July

Objectives: to help improve the individual's state of health, foster social interaction and strengthen ties in the community, promote active ageing, combat isolation and help achieve health gains. Provide a physical activity program that promotes healthy lifestyles.

Audience: people aged 55 or over, living or working in Lisbon

Activities: Fitness/Gymnastics, Dance, Pilates, Yoga and Maintenance Judo

Period: September to July

Objectives: to encourage physical exercise

Public: general

Locations: green spaces in the city

Activities: fitness, with specialized technical support

Duration: annual, from June to September, during weekends

Partnerships: AGAP/Portugal Activo | Lisbon Fitness Clubs

Objectives: to promote healthy lifestyle habits through the regular practice of walking and running

Public: from 16 years old

Activities: Physical assessment | Track test | Flexibility training, muscle strengthening, cardiovascular endurance

Participants are accompanied by certified professionals and advised to follow the route appropriate to their physical condition: Beginner | Intermediate | Advanced. Part of the National Walking and Running Program

Objectives: to encourage the adoption of an active lifestyle

Audience: people with a disability (aged 10 and over) who live, study, work or attend institutions/associations in the city of Lisbon

Activities and duration: 11 months, in 2 weekly sessions in an exercise room, gym and/or swimming pool, depending on local conditions. Guided by professionals specializing in adapted physical activity

Objectives: To provide the necessary conditions for Lisbon's Primary School Teachers to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge and develop the skills and attitudes that contribute to achieving the competences set out in the Profile of Students Leaving Compulsory Schooling, thus contributing to the enhancement and implementation of Physical Education Core Learning.

Coaching practices are privileged in the Curricular Physical Education Support Program.

Audience: elementary school students from Lisbon's public schools, including students with educational needs

Access: free of charge for students and educational establishments

Transportation: In the swimming block, student transportation is provided by Lisbon City Council


Regular education

Essential Learning in Physical Education: 2 Shifts: 14 lessons organized in one 45-minute session per week, from Monday to Friday, during curriculum time, for 14 consecutive weeks.

  • Swimming block: 4 shifts: 12 lessons organized into 2 weekly 45-minute sessions, from Monday to Friday, during curriculum time, for 6 consecutive weeks.
    Inclusive model: children with different needs, but who are integrated into the class, benefit from specialized individual support in the area of rehabilitation.
  • Lisboa Sem Rodinhas: 6 classes, consisting of 1 45-minute session per week, from Monday to Friday, during curriculum time, for 6 consecutive weeks.

Technical and Scientific Partner: Portuguese Society of Physical Education (SPEF)

Note: Given the contingency situation experienced in the 2020/2021 school year, the Support Program has suspended the swimming block for all students.


Special education

All students who have severe and persistent educational needs and require specialized learning support resources are part of the Support Programme for Learning Support Centres.

During each school year and for a period of 30 weeks, in the curriculum timetable, each student benefits from 15 consecutive individual lessons in the Swimming Block and 15 consecutive group lessons in the Rhythmic and Expressive Activities Block, under the responsibility of the special education teacher, assisted by specialized technicians.

One-off activities

The closing festivals are held at the end of each shift of the Swimming Block, with the aim of demonstrating the skills acquired during the lessons. Parents and other family members are invited to this activity.

The Finalist Party is aimed at students in the 4th year of schooling. This activity brings to a close the most complete cycle of training in the area of Physical Education.

Futsal Tournament

Objectives: to encourage physical activity among segments of the population with low levels of sports participation, and to contribute to the revitalization of the associative fabric

Calendar: annual

Public: clubs and associations in Lisbon | male or female players over 23 | non-federated players

Access: each team must enter 50% of its players aged 35 or over
