School Social Action

School social action encompasses a series of initiatives developed in the school environment with the aim of promoting inclusion, equal opportunities and the well-being of students

School social action is a set of measures designed to ensure that all students have the same opportunities to access education and succeed in school, regardless of their socio-economic status and/or special health needs.

Lisbon City Council awards various supports/subsidies to pre-school, primary and secondary school students in the public network, according to approved criteria.

This support is managed via the School Grouping/Non-School Grouping, through an application made by the person responsible for the child's education.

  • Students in classes A and B of school social action: they belong to households in the 1st and 2nd income brackets, for the purposes of granting family allowance
  • Students with special health needs (NSE), covered by measures to support learning and inclusion, Art. 20 and 21 of DL 54/20218 of July 6, amended by Law 116/2019 of September 13.

  • Free school meals (breakfast, lunch and snack) for children/students in ASE and NSE classes A and B enrolled in the public pre-school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic and secondary education;
  • 50% reduction in the amount to be paid for school meals (lunch) for all children/students not included in ASE classes A and B, enrolled in the public pre-school network, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic and secondary education;
