Municipal libraries
Lisbon's Municipal Libraries lend a variety of collections free of charge to the public for information, culture and entertainment. To make culture more accessible, there are daily activities for people of all ages, most of which are free.
The Municipal Library Network comprises eighteen libraries located throughout the city and one mobile library, which lend a variety of collections for information, culture, and entertainment to the public free of charge.
Books are a cultural resource that should be accessible to everyone. It is with this goal in mind that the City of Lisbon has developed its network of municipal libraries. In addition to lending and assistance services, the libraries offer free activities such as meetings with artists, storytelling sessions, music, workshops, exhibitions, displays, and courses in various fields.
The Lisbon Library Network also promotes citizenship, diversity, inclusion, artistic sensitivity and the preservation of memory and heritage. They work closely with local communities, giving them an active role in the day-to-day life and activities of the libraries.
