Biodiversity
Flora em Lisboa
It is quite diverse due to the mild climate and variety of landscapes in the region. In the city's parks and gardens, you can find a wide variety of plants, from native to exotic species.
Lisbon has more than 800,000 trees (native and exotic), belonging to more than 100 different species, and hundreds of species of shrubs and herbaceous plants.
This diversity of trees and plants contributes to the beauty and biodiversity of the city of Lisbon, offering pleasant green spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. In addition, the presence of urban trees plays an important role in improving air quality, regulating temperature, and promoting the well-being of the community.
Study, valorization and dissemination
As part of the Local Action Plan for Biodiversity in Lisbon 2020 (PALBL), a set of biodiversity indicators was assessed, which allowed the co-benefits generated by the green infrastructure to be recognized.
To assess biodiversity(sensu strictu), protocols were established for specific groups such as: lichens and bryophytes, terrestrial mammals, reptiles and amphibians, birds and benthic communities in the estuary.
