Noise protection

Excessive noise damages health and quality of life.

By far the main source of noise in Lisbon is road traffic, followed by railways and aviation. Other noise emitters are industry, construction work, machinery of all kinds and activities of daily living.

The Noise Map is a graphic representation of the spatial distribution of outdoor ambient noise levels.

Two indicators are used: Ln, which represents the average noise during the night (from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.), and Lden, which represents a weighted average over the 24 hours of the day.
