City of science

Investment in science and knowledge is a priority to the European Union, which has established the target of investing 3% of the GDP in research and innovation in 2020, both in the public and private sectors.

In Portugal, the Science and Technology Foundation seeks to attract talent by recruiting national and international PhD researchers.
Lisboa has proved not only to be an attractive city for tourists, students and entrepreneurs, but also a city of election by researchers and worldwide known institutions, namely the Gulbenkian Science Institute, the Institute of Molecular Medicine, the Ricardo Jorge Institute and the Champalimaud Foundation, to name but a few.

In addition to numerous public and private institutions exclusively dedicated to Science, Lisboa also boasts 150 higher education research centres financed by Science and Technology Foundation.

The Lisboa City Council is currently undertaking several actions aimed at furthering scientific activity, for the ultimate purpose of building a solid reputation within the scientific world.
